WELLSVILLE — Zach Peterson of the South Davis Composite cycling team finished second in the Varsity Boys race, propelling the squad to an 11th-place finish in the second Utah High School Cycling League race Saturday at Sherwood Hills.
Peterson’s time of 1:33:52 was less than three hundredths of one second behind Park City’s Matthew Turner, who crossed the line with a time of 1:33:49. However, Peterson’s finish allotted his team 540 points, more than one-third of the team total during Saturday’s event.
Also picking up a lot of points for the composite team was Josh Anderson, who finished fifth in the JV Boys Division 2 race and earned the South Davis team 489 points. His time of 1:22:52 for three laps was only one second behind Morgan Composite’s Brayden Nielsen, who finished fourth with a time of 1:21:05.
Teammate Mathew Lerdahl finished 14th with a time of 1:31:43, and Matt Reynolds and Trevor McCleery finished 17th and 18th, respectively, combining for 795 points for South Davis.
Jake Eiting and Ryan Wilkinson rounded out the South Davis effort by finishing 24th and 35th, respectively.
In the North Davis Composite team, which finished 14th overall in Saturday’s race, Hayden Sampson finished in seventh place with a three-lap time of 1:25:10 and earned 473 of the team’s 1409 overall points. Dallin Turner finished in the top 15 in the sophomore race, finishing 14th with a time of 1:07:29.
