BOUNTIFUL — It’s a number you can sing along with.
Songwriter/filmmaker Brian Jackson Fetzer will be coming to Bountiful’s Top Hat DVD and Video Oct. 5 from 5-7 p.m. to talk about his new movie, “The Pi Song Phenomenon.” Fetzer, who is also an Associate Instructor of Mathematics at the University of Utah, will sign copies of his new film and performing selections from “The Pi Song.”
“I’ve taught thousands of math classes, and the biggest problem people have is that they’re frightened of math,” said Fetzer. “But I’ve always seen mathematics as art.”
Fetzer, who regularly uses music in his math classes, has performed “The Pi Song” at more than 100 schools across the state. He decided to begin the film several years ago as a way of capturing the concert experience.
“I told myself I’d better preserve this while it’s happening,” said Fetzer.
One concert included in the movie was held at Bryant Middle School in Salt Lake. It was Fetzer’s first-ever performance at a jr. high school.
“After the first song, I knew they were with the show,” he said. “Later, they started clapping along with me.
Fetzer will also be coming to Top Hat Video on Oct. 27 from 5-7 p.m. Top Hat is located at 521 W. 2600 South in Bountiful. To find clips from the movie and the song that inspired it, search for “The Pi Song - Fetzer” on YouTube.
