BOUNTIFUL — With the first round of region games completed last week, the Davis Darts, Woods Cross Wildcats and Bountiful Braves each picked up wins to remain perfect in their respective region races.
Viewmont, only a game behind Taylorsville and half a game behind Hunter in Region 2, lost a non-region match to Bountiful last Wednesday, and didn’t play another match that week.
Davis’ dominance through Region 1 continued last week as it took down Layton 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 24-26, 25-21) to pick up a fifth region win and 25 win overall. Camille Walker and Tani Langston contributed to the winning effort: Walker had 19 kills and nine digs, and Langston added nine kills and 10 digs in the four-game victory.
Davis’ only loss of the season remains the game against Pleasant Grove Vikings, who won in two games during the Rocky Mountain Champions Classic three weeks ago.
Viewmont and Bountiful squared off in a non-region match last Thursday with Bountiful taking home the three-game sweep (25-16, 25-18, 25-18) for the win.
Alli Packard led the winning charge by recording 12 kills, and Brighton Taylor added eight kills in the short three-game match.
Woods Cross’ region match against East last Thursday was a quick one, ending the match in three games. The clean sweep over the Leopards to makes the Wildcats perfect in region play.
In the 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-19) sweep, Chloe Hirst led the offensive charge by collecting 12 kills. She also held East’s scoring opportunities at bay with 13 digs. Lexi Lewis was another strong presence on the floor with eight kills and 11 digs on the night.
Bryli Knell, the team’s setter, helped set up the entire floor with 29 assists and added a pair of blocks at the net for a solid overall effort.
Davis will look to continue its’ winning streak Thursday as it heads to Northridge High School for a Region 1 battle. Viewmont will hit also hit the road to take on Hunter High School, and the Braves will take on Clearfield at Clearfield High School.
Woods Cross will have a home match against Highland.
