BOUNTIFUL— The Davis Darts and Woods Cross Wildcats volleyball teams stayed unbeaten in region play by picking up wins over Northridge and Highland, respectively.
Bountiful maintained its one-game deficit to Woods Cross by taking down Clearfield in a clean sweep, and Viewmont slipped down the Region 2 standings following a tough loss to Hunter.
The Lady Darts picked up their seventh consecutive region victory last Thursday with a four-set win (23-25, 25-16, 27-25, 25-16) over the Knights. In the win, Kaylie Kamalu had the most kills with 18 and added 13 digs on defense for a solid overall effort. Camille Walker was also instrumental on offense and defense, getting 13 kills with 17 digs and three blocks. Tanisha Langston had nine kills and five digs to round out the win for Davis.
The win also allowed the Darts to maintain their near-flawless record, and they are now 26-1 overall. Only 3A Judge Memorial has more than 25 wins this season. The Bulldogs are 25-2.
Woods Cross followed its hard-fought five set win over Bountiful with a three-set sweep over Highland to finish the week, winning with scores of 25-13, 25-14, and 25-13. Riley Knell picked up the offense and defense for the Wildcats, piling up 32 assists with eight blocks and five kills. Chloe Hirst had the most attacking kills at 15 and had nine digs, and Taea Lavulo had six blocks to lead the defensive front.
The Wildcats have yet to drop a region game entering Tuesday afternoon’s match with Clearfield. They won 13 of their last 14 matches, dating back to the High Flying Falcon Open, where they went 10-2 overall.
Woods Cross’ 21 overall wins puts the team second behind Salem Hills in 4A, which has 22.
Bountiful’s 3-0 sweep over Clearfield was a quick match. They won with scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-20. Lalani Purcell, one of the Lady Braves’ setters, guided the scoring with 20 assists and picked up four aces, setting the table for the rest of the team as they coasted through the match.
Bountiful has won seven of its nine most recent matches since Sept. 5.
Viewmont’s push for a top seed in the 5A playoffs took a tumble last Thursday when they lost to Hunter in five sets (24-26, 25-17, 21-25, 25-15, 10-15). The Vikings fought back from deficits in three of the first four sets, dropping the first by two points.
