BOUNTIFUL —  Jenny Skedros scored two goals for Bountiful, and the Braves scored five total goals in a 5-0 win over Herriman in the first round of the 4A girls’ soccer playoffs.

Skedros’ goals were split between the two halves and helped Bountiful extend its lead throughout the game. Skedros’ first goal was the first of the game and occurred within the first eight minutes of the first half. The goal allowed Bountiful the score the only goal they needed that afternoon.

Elena Medeiros and Kennedy Merrick each scored first half goals to extend Bountiful’s lead to three after the first half. Medeiros’ goal happened in the 12th minute on a well-placed cross pass deep into the box. The pass landed ahead of Medeiros, who went past the Herriman defense for the goal.

Merrick’s goal happened in the 32nd minute on a well set up play involving Skedros, Mackenzie Eiting and Merrick. Merrick received the pass from Eiting after Bountiful failed to convert on its first two corner kicks. The third came to the near side of the field and was picked up by Skedros, who passed to Eiting. Eiting’s pass went to Merrick, who converted the pass into the third Bountiful goal.

Aly Clay scored Bountiful’s fourth goal and the first in the second half, knocking in her only goal in the 52nd minute. Clay was able to split two Herriman defenders for the goal, her fifth of the season.
