SALT LAKE CITY —  The Woods Cross Wildcats were in a heated overtime battle with East on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

With a chance to claim a higher seed in the 4A playoffs, the Wildcats tussled with the Leopards, who ultimately won the game 2-1.

But it was what happened during the game that caused the most stir among players, coaches and fans. They watched Wildcats’ senior defender take a knee to the head after tripping with East High’s Petiola Manu.

“I would like to think that (Manu) had an adrenaline-pumped moment in a very close game,” said Dave Newman, Woods Cross’ girls’ soccer coach. “I believe it’s something that she regrets doing and probably would never do it again. That’s what I hope is the situation.”

Clark was not seriously hurt, and played in the Wildcats’ semi-final loss to Bonneville on Tuesday afternoon.

But video of the incident has spread out among the communities of Woods Cross and East, and several other news sources having posted it online.

The video is posted on YouTube with the title “Where’s the Red Card???” and has been viewed more than 13,000 times.

On the video, Clark seems to push Manu from the leg as she falls down. After Clark hits the ground, Manu takes a step back, shuffles her feet, then delivers the blow to Clark’s head with her knee.
