Davis sweeps Syracuse, Braves win twice

KAYSVILLE — The Davis Lady Darts volleyball team continued its region-winning streak by sweeping the Syracuse Titans last Thursday, giving them the Region 1 title outright.

The Bountiful Lady Braves were also in action last week, playing in a brief tournament Friday and taking home two wins in three matches.

Davis’ sweep over Syracuse was a quick match for the Darts, who claimed the Region 1 title with one game remaining in the regular season. The 3-0 win came with games of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-20, and was Davis’ fifth shutout in region play this season. 

Overall, the Darts picked up their 27th win of the season and are 27-1 overall with 22 shutouts. 

The Lady Braves closed out the week by playing in a brief tournament on Friday. In Bountiful’s three games it went 2-1, picking up wins over Tooele and South Summit in 2-0 sweeps. The team’s loss to Snow Canyon was also a sweep, 2-0.

Bountiful’s wins came with game scores of 25-17, 25-13 against Tooele, and 25-17, 25-17 against South Summit. Against South Summit, the Braves battled through two tough games but ultimately lost 28-26 and 25-19.

Viewmont and Woods Cross did not have matches last week, and continued through the rest of its region schedules this week.

With the UEA weekend scheduled for this Thursday and Friday, none of the four south Davis County high schools will be playing volleyball matches. 

Davis’ next match will be against Layton on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Layton High School. Bountiful will travel to Cyprus High School to take on the Pirates on Tuesday, Oct. 23. The Viewmont Vikings will host Granger the same day, and Woods Cross will take on East at home before finishing the season off against Bountiful next Thursday.

With Davis winning the Region 1 crown last week, Viewmont is third in Region 2 with a 4-3 record, one game behind Hunter for second place.

Both Woods Cross and Bountiful are 1-2 in Region 6 with three region games remaining.
