FARMINGTON — Davis County Sheriff’s Deputy Brent McKissick and his teammates are champions.
McKissick, his friend Pleasant View Police Officer Robbie Done, and 18 law enforcement officers from four counties in Utah just returned from the PoliceSoftball.com World Series held in Las Vegas, where they went undefeated in their division.
The two started putting a team together more than a year ago. McKissick found a link to PoliceSoftball.com, when a friend connected him to the Wounded Warriors website, an organization that raises money for those wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sometimes, the money comes through donations from sporting events.
“A few of the guys like us love softball,” McKissick said. He’s been playing softball for 20 years and “Robbie’s been playing forever also,” he said.
Most of the team members are members of the Davis County Sheriff’s Office. Others come from the Spanish Fork Police Department, the Utah Highway Patrol, Orem Police Department, Lehi Police Department, Ogden Police Department and the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
This is the first year Utah has sent a team to the PoliceSoftball.com World Series. The tournament is divided into the Major Division for teams that are regulars at the World Series, and the Gold Division for more inexperienced teams. Those teams play to determine which teams stay in the Gold Division and which go to the lower, Silver Division. The Utah team played and lost to two Gold Division teams, landing in the Silver Division, but once there, “we went undefeated,” McKissick said. “We’ll definitely be back next year,” he said.
