The arrests were the result of several months of investigation into a spice distribution operation by strike force members at Victor's Smoke Shop in Kaysville and VIP Smokes and Hookah in South Jordan, said strike force Lt. Mark Chatlin. Both stores are owned by the same individual.
On multiple occasions, undercover agents allegedly purchased spice at the store, Chatlin said.
The investigation resulted in the seizure of more than 27 pounds of spice, including more than 11 pounds allegedly located at Al-Mukahel's residence in West Valley City. The spice has an estimated value of nearly $60,000. Agents also seized more than $230,000 in cash, Chatlin said.
