FARMINGTON – HollyFrontier Corp. was recently honored by the Davis School Board for its help supporting science, technology, engineering and math in Davis County Schools.

Lynn Keddington, plant manager at HollyFrontier, received an award of recognition from David Lovato, a member of the school board. 

The Woods Cross petroleum refinery funded a math-mentoring program for all first-grade teachers in the district. In addition, the company provided funding to upgrade technology in some classrooms in Farmington and West Bountiful elementaries.  

Employees helped build welding stations at Woods Cross High and others volunteer as mentors in the program two hours a week. The corporation also donated venting hoods for Woods Cross and partnered with the Career Technology Education program to purchase a $20,000, 3D printer for use in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) engineering programs.  

The printer, which can be used by multiple schools, takes a concept drawn by students and builds a prototype. It takes several hours to create the prototype, according to the release, but a web camera allows students to continue to watch the project as it is formed.

“HollyFrontier could choose anybody to give this valuable funding to,” said Jodi Lunt, Davis Education Foundation Director. “We are grateful they have chosen to partner with the Davis School District.”
