BOUNTIFUL – Ashley Eyring and Tiana Dougher each scored 13 points and combined to hit four 3-pointers Tuesday night against Riverton.

But their combined efforts still weren’t enough to overtake Riverton, which outscored Bountiful 33-14 between the second and third quarters as the Lady Braves suffered a two-point loss at the hands of the Silverwolves, 47-45.

After opening up the game with a six-point first quarter lead, Riverton’s strong run in the second and third quarter started to take shape. The Silverwolves scored 23 points in the second quarter, and held Bountiful to six points. The wolves took a 31-20 lead into the half.

Riverton extended the lead to 13 points after outscoring Bountiful again in the third quarter, 10-8. However, a strong fourth-quarter run had Bountiful at the doorstep of a possible overtime period.

With the offense back on track, the Lady Braves scored 17 points in the final quarter, but still came up short as the Silverwolves scored six points in order to escape the Bountiful gym with the win.

A big difference for Riverton in its win came at the free throw line. Despite making fewer field goals than Bountiful (17 for Riverton, 18 for Bountiful), the Silverwolves made 11 of 18 free throw attempts, compared to just 5 of 6 for the Lady Braves.

Riverton’s Whitney Saunders was a catalyst for her team, scoring a game-high 16 points. Pume Currie scored eight points and Tiena Afu and Kirsten Spencer each added six points in the win.

Eyring and Dougher’s 13 points apiece led the team for Bountiful. Kennedy Merrick scored six points and Jordyn Turville added four points in the loss.

Bountiful has alternated wins and losses in its first four games this season. Both its losses have been by six points or fewer.

Bountiful will face former Region 5 foe Sky View Friday night at home. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
