FARMINGTON – City staffers are giving local kids plenty of chances to get in touch with Santa Claus.
The big guy will be coming to Farmington’s Community Arts Center on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 1-5 p.m. to give kids a chance to visit with him and take pictures. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department is also accepting letters to Santa Claus, which they will then pay the postage for and send.
“We thought it would be nice to have a dropoff so parents wouldn’t have to look up Santa’s address on Google,” said Stefanie Gallagher, the city’s arts and special events coordinator.
Letters should be addressed to Santa Claus, 1 Candy Cane Ln, North Pole, AK, 99705. The envelope also needs to include a name and return address.
The parks and recreation office will accept the letters now through Dec. 20 during regular office hours. Employees have designated a special mailbox for the Santa letters.
For Santa Claus’s visit, families are welcome to come at any time during the event. Kids will sign up when they arrive, then make their own take-home advent calendars while they wait for their turn. Refreshments are also available.
“We had a perfect flow of people last year,” said Gallagher.
The children will get one-on-one time with Santa Claus, along with a picture that will be mailed to their homes. The event is free and open to all residents of Farmington.
“We just wanted to make a nice, easy, fun, free family event,” said Gallagher. “It’s pretty popular.”
