NORTH SALT LAKE –  It’s a brand-new city tradition.

The Woods Cross High Madrigals are coming to North Salt Lake City Hall to help ring in the Christmas season for the second year in a row. They’ll perform on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. as part of the city’s free Second Sunday Concert series. Everyone is welcome to attend.

“We’re happy to be hosting such an excellent group,” said North Salt Lake City Councilman Matt Jensen, who helps organize the concerts.

“They’re very talented, and we’re excited to have them back this year.”

The group will perform a mix of traditional and contemporary Christmas music, with many numbers sung a capella.

“The first time I heard them perform was at last year’s Christmas concert, and I was extremely impressed by their talent and enthusiasm,” said Jensen. “My kids went, and it was one of their favorite concerts of the year. The audience was pretty enthused, too.”

The Madrigals regularly win awards at music festivals across the country, often coming home with several in different categories and earning respect and recognition from the professionals that head the festivals.

“On a percentile basis, Woods Cross is easily in the top 10 percent, nationwide,” said UNLV’s Dr. Jocelyn Jensen, a judge at one of the competitions the Madrigals won.

The city’s free Second Sunday Concert series, which started in 2011, focuses on musical groups with North Salt Lake ties. In this case, many of the city’s teens go to Woods Cross High.

“A lot of the talent on display will be from our own community,” said Jensen.

Most recently, the city hosted an Interfaith Hymn Festival as part of the concert series. Other bands that have performed this year include the Michael Clement Jazz Trio and the Davis County Symphony.  The Utah National Guard’s 23rd Army Band also made a return appearance.

North Salt Lake City Hall is located at 10 E. Center Street. For more information, visit
