BOUNTIFUL – The drama of one life is being used to help others.
Bountiful resident Walter Rohloff has written an autobiography, “Under the Wings of the Almighty,” detailing his experiences as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints during and after the Nazi regime in Germany. Once printing costs are covered, all proceeds from the book will go toward the LDS Humanitarian and Perpetual Education Funds.
“I know how it feels when you’re hungry and have nothing. When you’ve lost everything,” said Rohloff. “I’m delighted to show everyone there’s a Father in heaven, and I’m delighted to return the money to the people who need it.”
Rohloff first wrote the book as a family history. While his wife was in hospice, however, one of the nurses there encouraged him to do more with it.
“She was an English teacher for 30 years, and when she was reading it she called me and asked if I wanted her to correct the punctuation,” said Rohloff. “I said I’d be delighted for her to.”
The book has sold out of its first printing and is well into its second. So far, Rohloff has been able to present a $500 check to the bishop of his ward.
