Churches set Christmas services

BOUNTIFUL — Candles and carols, scriptural lessons and communion will all be a part of Christmas services planned at a number of churches throughout Davis County in the coming week.

Davis County Christians will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, whom they worship as their savior.

Services at the various churches are open to the public, and anyone interested may attend.

The following is a list of Christmas services.

Assemblies of God

A Christmas Eve Candles by Candlelight service with a Christmas message and communion will be at the Christian Life Center, 2352 E. Highway 193, Layton.

 Baptist

Bountiful Heights Baptist Church, 390 N. 400 East will hold a Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m.

Layton Hills Baptist Church, 1332 N. Hillfield Road, Layton, will hold a Christmas Eve Candlelight service at 6:30 p.m.

Mountain View Baptist Church, 2585 E. 3000 North, Layton, will hold Christmas Eve services at 5 p.m. and again at 7 p.m.

 Catholic

St. Olaf Catholic Church, 1800 S. Orchard Drive, Bountiful, will offer a special Christmas concert by the Mountain West Chorale, on Dec. 22 at 5 p.m., just prior to the 5:30 p.m. Mass. On Christmas Eve, the Children’s Mass begins at 5:30 p.m. At 9:30 p.m., Christmas carols will precede the 10:30 p.m. Christmas Mass. There will be no Midnight Mass. On Christmas Day, Masses will be celebrated at 9 and 11:30 a.m. The Filipino Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m.

At St. Rose of Lima, 210 S. Chapel Street, Layton, Las Posadas, the blessing of the tree and nativity, birthday party for Jesus and Children’s play begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23. Christmas Eve Masses will be celebrated at 5 p.m. in English, 7:30 p.m. in Spanish and at midnight in English. A Christmas Day Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in English.

Community

At Clearfield Community Church, 200 S. 500 East, the Christmas Eve celebration begins with a Sweet and Tasty Prelude of Christmas goodies at 5:30 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. service of Candlelight and Carols Sing-along.

Episcopal

At the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 1131 S. Main, Centerville, A Christmas Eve Service with communion will be held at 5 p.m. Another service with communion is set for 10 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Christmas Eve Service Choral Cantata, “A Song Is Born,” will be offered at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 1579 South State Street, Clearfield at 5 p.m.  

 Lutheran

Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 1840 S. 75 East, Bountiful, is holding a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 7 p.m. A Christmas Day service is set for 10 a.m.

Grace Lutheran Church, 835 N. Main, Bountiful, will hold a Christmas Eve service of Lesson and Carols at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Trinity Lutheran Church, 74 N. Fort Lane, Layton, will hold a Christmas Eve Candlelight service at 7 p.m.

Presbyterian

Westminster Presbyterian Church, 796 S. Mountain Road, Fruit Heights, will hold a Longest Night service, for those who find the holidays difficult at 7 p.m. A Christmas Eve Candlelight service is set for 7 p.m.

 United Church of Christ

At Bountiful Community Church, 150 N. 400 East, there will be a Christmas Eve Lessons and Carol service at 9 p.m., The congregation will sing “Silent Night” by candlelight to close the service.
