FARMINGTON – Teachers and students in Davis School District have been honored for a number of accomplishments this month. The district itself was also recognized.
Davis High’s VEX Robotics team won the Programming Skills Award, the Driver Skills Award, the Tournament Championship and the Excellence Award in the Idaho State championship competition. They are ranked 26th in the world for Robot Skills and have qualified for the World Championships in April.
Heidi Block, a district school psychologist, received the Barbara Bennett Excellence in Diversity Award from the Utah Association of School Psychologists. The award recognizes an outstanding school psychologist who has provided leadership and advocacy for the treatment of diverse populations, according to a press release.
High school chemistry teachers in the district were presented a Learning First Achievement Award from the Davis School Board last month. The teachers helped students raise their chemistry scores from 3 percent below the state average to 6 percent above it in just one year.
Davis School District is the only district in Utah to make the Advanced Placement Honor Roll for three consecutive years. The district was one of 539 school districts across the United States, including five in Utah, that made the AP Honor Roll this year.
Ninth grader Adam Pearce had his story published in a national magazine for the American Diabetes Association. The Kaysville Junior High student is the Youth Advocate for Utah and has spoken to many health and nutrition classes at local schools. Pearce has lived with Type 1 diabetes for eight years.
