BOUNTIFUL – The Viewmont Lady Vikings lost for the first time this season on Friday against Brighton, 51-45.

However, Bountiful, Woods Cross and Davis picked up wins during preseason play. The Braves beat Weber 69-56, the Wildcats beat Olympus 57-46, and the Darts doubled up on Clearfield, 47-20.

The Lady Vikings, who are ranked No. 12 in the state, suffered their first loss at the hands of the Bengals, who are ranked No. 11.

In the loss, Caitlyn Larsen led the scoring with a game-high 22 points, including three 3-pointers. Katie Toole finished with eight points, but the Vikings were doomed by a poor start. They were held to 16 first half points and were outscored 29-19 between the second and third quarters.

Bountiful’s win over 5A Weber was the Lady Braves’ second straight victory following a 2-3 start, and was guided by the scoring efforts of Ashley Eyring, Kennedy Merrick and Tiana Dougher.

Eyring tied for the game-high in points with 23 and also had three rebounds and three steals in the game. Merrick and Dougher finished with double-doubles. Merrick scored 17 points with 10 rebounds and Dougher added 12 points with 13 rebounds in the win.

Jenny Skedros showed a strong overall effort as well, picking up seven points with seven steals and six assists.

The Lady Wildcats’ win over Olympus was Woods Cross’ second straight victory and followed a double-digit win over Taylorsville on Thursday.

Camille Horrocks was the centerpiece of the offense, scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double for the first time this season.

Eden Jacobsen and Aliyah Miller each added 11 points.

Woods Cross’ offense and defense really stepped up during the second half as they outscored the Titans 35-23.

The Lady Darts put an end to their small two-game losing skid by holding Clearfield to 20 points during the entire game last Friday, the lowest total they’ve allowed all season.

Davis had a near three-fold lead following the first half of play, scoring 35 points while holding the Lady Falcons to 11 in the first 16 minutes.

The Lady Darts also held Davis to nine second-half points in the win.

Jessica Richardson had a solid overall effort for Davis in the win, scoring 10 points with nine rebounds.

Natalie Mecham finished with a game-high 15 points with seven rebounds, and Sarah Beecher added 12 points in the win.

Three of the Lady Vikings’ next four games will be on the road, starting with Thursday’s game against Riverton.

Bountiful will also have a trio of road games in its next four games, and will travel to Olympus Friday night to take on the Titans.

Woods Cross’ next game won’t happen until after the moratorium, and will take on Box Elder on the road on Thursday, Jan. 3.

Davis’ next game will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29., at home, against Brighton.
