Many U.S. citizens are concerned about gun control, but it’s impossible for people to agree on a solution, partly because of the relationship between politicians and the voting public, and because of the many clubs and associations that are for and against gun control. Here’s what I feel can be done:

1. Every gun owner and new gun purchaser should be required to obtain a liability policy for, say, one million dollars. Then, if his or her gun causes disability or death or damages anyone’s property, the insurance company will pay the victims. This would be in addition to what the law requires of the perpetrator. The amount of liability could be adjusted according to the type of gun and type of crime committed.

2. All gun owners must complete an application to be qualified for liability insurance, and insurance companies check individuals’ health and mental stability carefully before issuing any policy.

3. Issued policies will be subject to renewal annually with a follow-up investigation, and premiums will be adjusted if necessary.

Is our government serious about protecting its citizens and enforcing gun control laws? Are lawmakers doing the job they’re paid for?
