KAYSVILLE – The Davis Darts and Bountiful Braves boys’ basketball teams picked up their sixth win in a row to close out the week last Thursday and Friday.
The Viewmont Vikings also picked up a pair of wins last week, winning two out of three games during the Red Rock Tournament last weekend.
Davis’ only game last week came against the Olympus Titans, who won five of their last six games entering the contest.
With the game tied at 43, the Darts’ Abel Porter nailed a 3-pointer in order to pick up the Darts’ sixth straight victory. Porter’s 3-pointer served as his only points on the night. The senior added three rebounds and two assists.
Leading the scoring charge were a trio of Darts, each of whom scored in double figures that night. Braden Koelliker led the charge with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists, and Cole Hally scored 11 points with eight rebounds and two assists. Jesse Wade scored 10 points.
Through six games, the Darts are still undefeated on the season.
The Bountiful Braves entered the Panther Holiday Classic, held at West High School last weekend, with a four-game winning streak. It included a victory over rival Viewmont.
When the Braves’ two-game set was over, Bountiful walked out of the Panther’s gym with a pair of wins over Logan (65-62) and Clearfield (71-42).
Against Logan, the Braves were making one basket after another. Sam Merrill, Jeff Pollard, Zach Seljaas and the rest of the Braves scored 40 points in the first half, giving them a 15-point halftime lead.
The lead was decimated after Logan outscored Bountiful 22-9 in the third, but the Braves hung on in the final quarter to pick up the win.
Merrill led all scorers with 26 points, including three 3-pointers, in the Braves fifth straight win.
Friday’s game against Clearfield was a little easier for the Braves. They held the Falcons to 16 first-half points while scoring 42.
The big lead was easily maintained through the second half. The Braves made 29 second-half points in order to seal their sixth-straight win.
Seljaas was the leading scorer in the win over Clearfield, scoring 18 points. Merrill and Pere LeSeueur scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. Bountiful’s 3-point shooting stood out during the game. They made 10 3-pointers compared to Clearfield’s four.
Kyler Moore and Marquis Jones led the Falcons with 10 points each in the loss.
Viewmont put an end to its five game losing streak last weekend by winning two out of three games in the Red Rock Rumble, held at Dixie State College.
While Viewmont dropped their first game, they picked up a pair of wins over Desert Hills (57-51) and Pine View (51-43) to close out the tournament.
Jarom Tye had a great weekend during the tournament, scoring in double figures in two of the three games, including a double-double in the Vikings’ win over Desert Hills.
Tye’s highest point total came against American Fork. He scored a team-high 15 points. Against Desert Hills, Tye had 10 points and 13 rebounds and was one of four Vikings players to score at least 10 points.
McKay Butler led the charge against Desert Hills with 16 points, and McKay Richins scored 14 points. Michael Steinicke scored 10 points with Tye in the win.
The Vikings defense took apart Pine View in their final game of the tournament, holding the Panthers to 21 points in the first three quarters while coasting to a win.
Davis will start a three-game schedule this weekend. The Darts travel to Gillette, Wyo. to play in the Energy Classic starting Thursday.
Viewmont and Bountiful will not play until after the New Year’s holiday, and the Wildcats will play Mountain Crest at home Saturday after an eight-day layoff.
