WOODS CROSS – Students at Woods Cross High collected $4,741.53 in spare change for a fundraiser in support of cancer research.
Pasta for Pennies, a nationwide campaign sponsored by Olive Garden, raised $10.7 million last year.
During a three-week period in 2012, schools filled collection jars and boxes in their classrooms. The top fundraising class at each participating school was awarded a pasta party from their local Olive Garden restaurant.
The money raised helps fund research on blood cancers and provides services to those diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma and their families.
“Teachers do an amazing job incorporating Pasta for Pennies into their math and science curriculum,” said Stacie Kulp, campaign manager of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Utah/Southern Nevada chapter.
“Kids learn about how important it is to give back to the local community,” she said. “Our patients and their families truly appreciate it.”
