CENTERVILLE – City officials want to see Centerville through your eyes.
As part of a planned redesign of the city’s website, officials are asking residents to submit their photos of Centerville. The pictures will be used to highlight different departments and city amenities.
“We’re trying to capture the different aspects of Centerville,” said Centerville City Managerial Assistant Jacob Smith. “All the front and department pages will get their own rotating set.”
Smith is hoping to gather 50 photos. Each page on the redesigned site will rotate through its own set of 10 photos. Ideally, the photos will be somehow connected to each of the departments, such as soccer games for Recreation or architecture for Community Development. Other pages, including those for the mayor and city council, could feature more general shots of the city.
“Some people take photos of trails, and some of elk,” he said. “We want to see all of them, and hopefully go through all the different seasons.”
There are several photos on the city’s website at centervilleut.com, but the original files were lost. The new pictures will replenish the city’s archives and will also be used in the quarterly newsletter that gets mailed to all Centerville residents.
“As it is now, we have to go out and take fresh pictures every time,” Smith said. “There are Kodak moments happening all the time, and we want to be able to capture those.”
The request for pictures has been posted on the website since November, but so far no one has submitted any photos.
“We’ll keep the request open until we get all the pictures we need,” he said. “We’ll probably give it a year. Hopefully, people have pictures they’ve already taken and can send in.”
Pictures should be in a wide format and no bigger than 5MB in size. To submit a photo for use by the city, e-mail it to Jacobs@centervilleut.com. Be sure to nclude your name so the picture can be credited properly.
