FARMINGTON – A two-day conference for parents of teens with special needs will be held at the Davis School District Administration Building on Jan. 28 and 29, and another workshop for parents will follow in February.
The first session, sponsored by the Utah Parent Center, will offer information on helping teens with special needs transition to adulthood. Topics will cover guardianship and laws impacting transition, as well as how to help a child get and keep a first job and how to teach a child to be an effective self-advocate.
There is no cost to attend “From No Where to Know Where: Transition to Adult Life,” which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at 45 E. State in Farmington. Pre-registration is requested, and can be done through utahparentcenter.org.
Parents of students with disabilities still in the school system are invited to attend a workshop on their role in the Individualized Education Program, which is set up for each student. They will learn how to effectively prepare for, participate in and follow-up on IEP meetings held on behalf of their students, according to a press release.
That class is set for Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the professional development center of the Kendall administration building, 70 E. 100 North, Farmington.
