BOUNTIFULThe Viewmont Lady Vikings girls’ basketball team is on a roll. 

Last week, the Lady Vikings picked up their third straight victory when they beat Northridge 51-36 on Wednesday. They followed the triumph by opening Region 2 action with a dominating 62-26 win over Taylorsville on Friday.

In closing out preseason games, Viewmont’s Caitlyn Larsen and Katie Toole combined to score 31 of the Vikings’ 51 points, and the defense held the Knights to fewer than 10 points, scoring in every quarter except the fourth. 

Larsen, who leads the team in scoring this season, scored 20 points with five rebounds, five assists and seven steals for a solid all-around performance. Took added seven rebounds and three steals with her 11 points, and Collette West added nine points in the win.

Against Taylorsville in the Region 2 opener, Larsen and Toole again were the focal point of the offense. The duo each scored 20 points in an easy win. Larsen added six rebounds, four assists and four steals, and Toole finished with a double-double by pulling down 11 rebounds. 

Kauri Tye had five points with seven rebounds and Taya Adams added six points with seven rebounds in the win.

 

Bountiful drops second straight game

The Bountiful Lady Braves had nearly a week to recover from their 64-47 loss to Viewmont. Nevertheless, they lost 48-34 to Bonneville last Friday.

Bonneville held Bountiful to single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters, then took advantage of the strong defense performance by scoring 37 points in the first three quarters, including 17 to open the second half. 

Bountiful outscored Bonneville in the fourth, but only by a single point. It suffered its third loss in four preseason games.

Tiana Dougher led the Vikings with 13 points and eight rebounds, and was the team’s only double-digit scorer. Morgan Cook scored six points, and Kennedy Merrick and Jenny Skedros combined to score eight points in the loss.

 

Darts win fifth straight, beat Mustangs 

The Davis Lady Darts girls’ basketball team won its fifth straight ball game last Thursday, taking down Mountain Crest 63-56. 

Leading the scoring charge for Davis were four players who scored in double figures. Morgan Hartvigsen tied for the game-high with 15 points, and Jessica Richardson added 14 points. Natalie Mecham scored 12 points and Caitlyn Gibson scored 11 points in the Darts’ victory.

Davis finished the preseason with a 7-4 record.

 

Wildcats lose to Bees

In its first game back for the new year, the Wildcats girls’ basketball team dropped its final preseason game to Box Elder last Thursday, losing 55-38.

Camille Horrocks led the Wildcats in the loss, scoring 14 points. Aliyah Miller and Briley Knell each scored seven points in the loss, and Halle Smith added another six points for Woods Cross.

The Wildcats were held to fewer than 40 total points for the third time in the preseason. They lost all three games.

Woods Cross finished the preseason with a 3-8 record.

 

Games this week

Region games will dominate the rest of the season for all Utah teams. Davis, Viewmont, Bountiful and Woods Cross will play at home Friday night as they host Syracuse, Granger, Clearfield and East, respectively.

Tip off for each game is 5:15 p.m.
