BOUNTIFUL — Snow storms are a regular occurrence during northern Utah winters, but school and government closures are rare.

One former school teacher, Haldeen Monson, remembers schools in Centerville being closed exactly 20 years ago, today.

She took a photo of her children and some neighbor kids playing in the cold that day, and noticed on Friday that the dates matched.

Another Clipper reader sent us a photo from a snowy Bountiful day more than sixty years ago. It was taken of the Cushing’s house at 41 N. 100 East during the winter of 1948-1949.

According to the national weather service, a similar storm hit the Bountiful area on Jan. 21 and 22 of last year, but much of the precipitation turned to rain before it hit the ground. During that storm, 9 inches of snow fell on the Bountiful Bench.

This evening, Davis County commuters will be hit especially hard by the storm. Road snow will focus on the east side of Salt Lake City north through Clearfield, according to the weather service. High caution is advised. Moderate caution is advised elsewhere, including south through Salt Lake County.
