Vikings hockey drops to P.C., DCI, Davis snap losing streaks

BOUNTIFUL – The Viewmont Vikings hockey team lost for only the third time all season last Wednesday, dropping a 2-1 game to Park City.

In the game, Viewmont’s Tyler Wiser and Jeremy Wiser combined to score the Vikings’ only goal in the game with more than 11 minutes remaining in the third period.

The goal cut the Vikings’ deficit to 2-1, but they were never able to fully come back from the two-goal lead built up by Park City. 

Tyler Wiser scored the goal for Viewmont, his sixth of the season. Tyler Wiser’ assist was his seventh for the season.

Eagles snap losing streak

The Davis County Independent Eagles snapped their 10-game losing streak last Wednesday by scoring a season-high nine goals in a 9-4 victory over Riverton.

Ryan Lemon, a defenseman, led the scoring charge for DCI by slapping in four goals for the Eagles. Three of his four were scored in the second period, extending the Eagles lead from two goals to four. His final goal came with 3:15 remaining in the game. It gave the Eagles an 8-3 lead.

Lemon finished the game with four goals and an assist for the Eagles.

Other scorers were Wayne Harper, who scored two goals on the night. Bradley Berry, Kyle Swain and Giovanna Shannon scored single goals.

Darts end five-game skid

The Davis Darts hockey team ended its five game losing streak last Wednesday, taking down Juan Diego 3-2 at the South Davis Recreation Center.

Davis proved to be the aggressor from the beginning, scoring three goals in the first and second periods in order to take a 3-0 lead.

Colin Ecsedy ended the game with a hat trick, scoring all three goals for Davis. Jerald Mayne picked up assists in two of Ecsedy’s goals, and Zach Derrera and Andrew Whitney each picked up an assist in the game as well.

Upcoming games

The hockey season continued Wednesday night, but scores were not available to the Clipper as of press time. The final games of the season will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 30 and Friday, Feb. 1.

Davis and DCI will play games on Jan. 30, taking on Riverton and Brighton, respectively.

Viewmont will take on Uintah on Feb. 1.
