BOUNTIFUL – just getting ready to wrap up their respective region or state competitions in the coming days.

Among the activities that have concluded for Davis County high schools are the Region 1 and Region 2 swimming championships and the Region 1 wrestling tournament.

Swimming

In swimming, both the Darts and Vikings have done well in their respective regions and were looking forward to swimming for a region title in 2013.

The Vikings boys’ swim team hit the pool Wednesday afternoon in the hopes of repeating as region champions for the third straight year.

Last year the boys’ team took home a Region 2 crown and were winners of the Region 1 crown the year before, having had to relocate regions after the previous realignment.

The Darts will are also looking forward to taking home a region title as both the boys’ and girls’ teams prepare for next week’s state 5A swim meet at BYU.

Last season the Viewmont girls’ team finished 10th at state, and Davis finished 15th. The Darts boys’ team fared better, placing fifth against Viewmont’s 11th place finish last year.

Results of each region swim meet were not available at press time, but will be available on the Clipper’s website upon completion.

Wrestling

In wrestling, the Darts took part in the Region 1 championships Wednesday afternoon at Fremont High School. Davis is a favorite to place well in the 5A state tournament, and it finished 14th in the 2011 competition at Utah Valley University.

A common theme will be the result of Thursday’s competitions for local high schools as Davis, Viewmont, Woods Cross and Bountiful will all have its respective wrestling teams hit the mat.

With Bountiful and Woods Cross squaring off for bragging rights, the Darts will compete one day after the completing the region competition by taking on Layton to finish Region 1 action.

The Vikings, who are also preparing for next week’s 5A sectionals, will finish their region schedule with the Granger Lancers at home.

Drill team

Friday night will have fans flocking to the 4A and 5A State drill competition, held at Utah Valley University.

The competition will feature some of the best drill teams in the state, including the four-time state winning Bountiful Mandonelles. The Mandonelles, coming off another region title this past weekend, will look to capture its fifth-straight 4A title when they hit the floor Friday morning.

Last year the Mandonelles swept all three routines en route to its fourth straight title. They’ve also swept each category for three straight years, but still have some tough competition coming their way in the form of Hillcrest, who finished second in last year’s 4A final.

The State 4A and 5A drill competition will start at 11 a.m.
