BOUNTIFUL – Despite a key missing piece on the floor Friday night against Woods Cross, the Bountiful Lady Braves girls’ basketball team didn’t miss a beat.
With Kennedy Merrick injured and on the sidelines, Tiana Dougher scored 13 points and Jenny Skedros scored 10 points. The Lady Braves shut down the Wildcats 59-42 to pick up their third win in the last four games.
After building a 15-7 lead after the first quarter, Bountiful’s defense held Woods Cross scoreless for nearly the entire second quarter, building a lead that expanded from eight to 25 points by halftime. While the Braves were holding Woods Cross scoreless, the entire squad took part in what eventually became a 13-0 run through the first six minutes of the second quarter.
Woods Cross’ only points were scored with 25 seconds remaining in the first half, a two-point bucket by Gaby Ocejo, before the half ended.
Woods Cross’ offense started scoring more to start the second half as Eden Jacobsen, and Aubree Riddle combined to score nine of Woods Cross’ 15 third-quarter points, but still trailed by 22 points entering the final quarter.
Woods Cross began the quarter on a 7-2 run after Riddle, Halle Smith and Camille Horrocks each scored buckets to close the scoring gap.
Stellar defense earns Lady Darts a win
The Davis Lady Darts girls’ basketball team picked up its fifth Region 1 win Tuesday night, beating Northridge 56-44 on the strength of a solid first quarter defense.
Outscoring the Knights 16-4 in the first, the Darts were able to maintain their lead despite being out-scored in the second and third quarters.
Davis bounced back to score 18 points in the final quarter to pick up the win.
Natalie Mecham led Davis with a team-high 16 points, and Jessica Richardson scored 14 in the win. Sydnee Acord scored a game-high 21 points for the Lady Knights in the loss.
Lady Vikings win 12th straight, beat West
The Viewmont Lady Vikings girls’ basketball team picked up its 12th-straight win and seventh straight in Region 2 play after beating West 46-43 Tuesday night.
The win was earned despite being out-scored 14-7 in the fourth quarter as Caitlyn Larsen and Katie Toole helped lead the scoring charge for Viewmont.
Larsen finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists, and Toole scored 14 points in the win.
Kauri Tye and Taya Adams had a solid overall performance as well, scoring seven points with seven rebounds and six points with six rebounds, respectively, in the win.
Games this week
All four south Davis County high schools will continue region play Friday night on the road.
Davis will travel to Syracuse to take on the Titans in Region 1, and Viewmont will be at Granger to battle the Lancers.
Bountiful will go to Clearfield and Woods Cross will head to East in Region 6 action.
All games will tip off at 5:15 p.m.
