BOUNTIFUL — A 41-year-old Bountiful soccer coach was arrested Wednesday on charges related to having a sexual relationship with a child.
Steve Dale Green was taken into custody at a gym. Police said he had a three- year relationship with a teenager that started when she was 13.
Green was booked into the Davis County Jail on first-degree felony charges of rape of a child, sodomy on a child, sexual abuse of a child, rape, sodomy and sexual abuse. Police booked Green on charges relating to both a child and adult, because the victim matured during the years the relationship allegedly went on, Bountiful Police Lt. Gary Koehn said.
Green coached the girl's soccer team, which was part of a private league, Koehn said. The abuse allegedly began in 2008 and continued until 2011, when the victim tried to end it.
According to a probable cause statement, the relationship began with inappropriate touching. It progressed to sexual intercourse, allegedly "happening almost every day at Green's home," the affidavit states.
The victim told the relative because as she was maturing, she became interested in boys her own age, and told Green "to back off," Koehn said. That relative contacted police.
Green has refused to speak with police and asked for an attorney, Koehn said.
The case has been turned over to the Davis County Attorney's office for review, and no charges have yet been filed.
