BOUNTIFUL — The Academic All-State members for all six winter sports have been named, and many of those recognized come from Davis County schools.
Locally, 11 athletes were named to the team from their respective sports.
Among the sports for the winter season are boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ swimming, wrestling and drill.
The school with the most athletes in one sport is Bountiful’s drill team, which recently won its fifth straight 4A State championship this past weekend.
Among those named are Lindsay Parrish, Clair Christiansen and Chandler Meyer. The trio combined with seven other All-State members in the 4A classification to make a combined GPA of 3.987.
In 5A, Davis’ Jessi Liddell was the only Lady Dart to make the list. Others from Davis County include Layton’s Lindsey Hanson and Jenna Christensen, and Syracuse’s Miryka Norman.
In boys’ basketball, Brady Cowley was the only south Davis County athlete named to either the 5A or 4A All-State team. However, Layton’s Braden Checketts and Scott Sweeten, and Syracuse’s Landon O’Camb made the 5A list.
Girls’ basketball members are Viewmont’s Taya Adams in 5A and Bountiful’s Ashley Eyring in 4A. They were the only Davis County members included in the all-state list for this year.
Two south Davis County athletes also made the list for boys’ swimming. Viewmont’s Chandler West and Woods Cross’ Chris Carey, whose teams will be competing in this year’s State swimming competition, made the list for 5A and 4A, respectively.
Layton’s Kyle Mollinet also was on the 5A list, and Clearfield’s Stephen Smith made the 4A team.
Amanda Romrell of Viewmont and Michelle Stevens of Woods Cross made the 5A and 4A girls’ swimming all-state list as well.
South Davis high schools were completely shutout of the wrestling All-State list. Clearfield’s Christian Kodele was the only Davis County high school athlete to make the list in the 4A class.
