KAYSVILLE — In between the high school cross country and track and field seasons, the many runners of Davis High School’s cross country and track teams take to the roads to train for other races.
Competing in events locally and in other states in the region, the Darts have finished anywhere from 11th to second. They have even beaten college running teams, as they did in the annual Ragnar Relay race held in Utah.
Approximately three weeks ago the Darts finished first in the boys’ and girls’ 4x800 relay racing event with one of the top times in the country.
The finish allowed both teams to qualify for the New Balance Indoor Nationals event, held in New York City.
The girls’ team, consisting of Taylor Cox, Joanna Boyd, Ellie Child and Shea Martinez, finished with a time of 9:14.86 for its first place finish. The finishing time was the fastest in the nation at that time and set both a meet and school record for the event.
The boys’ team of Brayden Cromar, Alex Hedquist, Skylar Williams and Jackson Sagers also set a school and meet record with a time of 8:01.38.
The finishing time ranks them among the top 10 teams in the nation, and also qualified them for nationals.
The team, however, is asking for donations in order to make the trip to New York City before the event begins on March 8.
Donations can be mailed to the Davis County Running Club, care of Corbin Talley, located at 1211 N. 2375 West in Layton. Donations will also be accepted under the Davis County Running Club at any local America First Credit Union.
