WOODS CROSS — Five people were displaced from a house at 1567 S. 700 West on Friday evening after a fire caused between $75,000 and $100,000 in damage.
Two dogs found in the home were rescued and taken to a veterinarian.
One of the residents returning home from work about 6:50 p.m. discovered the fire, said South Davis Metro Fire Agency Deputy Chief Jeff Bassett.
As the resident opened the front door, he noticed smoke coming up out of the basement. Upon investigation, he found the basement in flames, Bassett said. The man quickly shut the door, exited the house and called 911.
Firefighters were able to quickly knock the fire down. That's when they found the two dogs. They weren’t breathing.
"We gave them oxygen therapy and revived them,” Basset said. “A friend took them to a veterinarian in Salt Lake City."
Firefighters say the cause of the fire was electrical. All five displaced people found housing with relatives, Bassett said.
