LAYTON — A Layton man died Monday when his ice and snow-ladened carport collapsed on him
John Eaves, 50, died in the accident, which happened about 9:15 a.m. on Monday at his home in the 1600 East block of 2050 North. He was the manager of the Costa Vida restaurant in South Ogden.
Eaves was considering how to remove the build up of ice and snow from the when the weight of the snow caused the collapse, said Layton Police Lt. Shawn Horton. Rescuers from the Layton Fire Department used a jack to try and raise the roof off Eaves, but were unsuccessful.
