Don J Gines was born in Woodland, Summit County, Utah, on December 8, 1925, the second of twelve children born to Rex and Thelma Gines. He was raised on a dairy farm and was baptized in the Provo River. Don was the student body president of South Summit High School, played football and took regional honors in track. Don married his high school sweetheart LaRee Thayne in 1945 while he was on a one week leave from the military before going oversees during World War II. As part of the Greatest Generation, he served his country in Italy, Austria, and North Africa. Don and LaRee’s marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple, and they settled in Bountiful, where Don built their dream home. He was the father of four daughters: Linda Hedges, Cathy (Danne) Hughes, Deon Gines, and Terry (Wayne) Allred, and had fourteen grand children, 25 great grand children and seven great great grand children. Don attended electronics school and Utah State University. He worked at Hill Air Force base for thirty years and was section chief for many years until retirement. Don and LaRee always encouraged their grandchildren to go to college and helped make it possible for them. Don’s interests included family first, church, travel, reading, and new cars. He was an avid Utah Jazz fan. Don loved music and he taught his daughters to play the piano. Don and LaRee spent many days snow skiing. Don was preceded in death by LaRee, and granddaughter Andrea. He is survived by siblings Bernice Bye, Margaret Heise, Howard Gines, and Ellen Rees. Funeral services were be held at the Woodland Hills Ward, on Monday February 25with interment in the Lakeview Cemetery.
