Spring sports to kick off Tuesday

BOUNTIFUL — The outside weather may not cooperate with the schedule, but the kick-start of all the spring sports is next week.

Some games start as early as Tuesday, and Davis, Viewmont, Bountiful and Woods Cross all have games next week.

On Tuesday, March 5, the Woods Cross Wildcats baseball team is scheduled to take the field at home against Stansbury, a former Region 6 opponent that moved from the 4A to the 3A class following the 2011 school year.

The Wildcats, who were eliminated in the 4A baseball tournament after three games, are the defending co-Region 6 champions and won 17 games last season overall.

The Wildcats will also play Wednesday afternoon against Timpanogos on the road.

The Davis Darts boys’ soccer team, which won the state 5A title last season, will take on Bountiful at home Tuesday afternoon as well. The Darts, who won 16 games overall last season, will start their title defense against the Braves, who were 5-4-1 in Region 6 last season before bowing out of the 4A playoffs.

Both teams met each other last season to open the spring sports schedule. Davis won the match 5-0.

The Viewmont Vikings will start their final season in Region 2 on Wednesday when they face off against future Region 1 opponent Northridge.

The Vikings were 11-3-2 last season and were the Region 2 champions after going 8-1-1 in region play. Viewmont will move back to Region 1 after this season due to the most recent realignment changes made by the Utah High School Activities Association.

Viewmont and Woods Cross will also kick off its respective softball seasons that day.

The Wildcats host Fremont and the Vikings take on Northridge.

Thursday will mark the beginning of the baseball season for the Davis Darts, who won a Region 1 title after three grueling end-of-the-season games against Syracuse.

It will be the only game that day to feature a south Davis County team.

The Bountiful Braves baseball team will make its first appearance Friday afternoon, taking a bus trip to Kaysville to face the Darts.

Woods Cross will also play Friday afternoon baseball, hosting its second opponent of the week, Skyline.

Bountiful and Viewmont soccer teams will also face each other Friday afternoon. The Vikings will host to the Braves.

Davis will host Ogden in the afternoon to wrap up Friday’s action.
