Editor,
I applaud the Holly/Frontier Corporation for its support of Bountiful and the state of Utah. This refinery was built in 1932. It has never had a major ecological problem and provides many head-of-household paying jobs The federal, state and local taxes paid benefit our schools and healthcare systems. We all should all be grateful that we are a highly self-sufficient state due to the local operation of these petrochemical refineries.
So much of what we use on a daily basis comes from the towers that distill crude oil. For example, many life-saving medications are made with the refined benzene. Plastics are derived from crude oil. Fabrics, rubber products and so many other compounds are derived from crude oil.
Being born and raised in Bountiful, I am in support of increased production from the Holly/Frontier plant.
Scott Pedersen,
Bountiful
