SALT LAKE CITY — Viewmont’s P.J. Tanner scored two goals and had one assist on Monday night in the Steiner West arena in Salt Lake City.

The Viking, along with Travis Koury and DCI’s Ryan Lemon, among others, played with the North All-Stars team that night, The players took down the South All-Stars 12-6 in the annual Utah High School Hockey North-South All-Star game.

In typical high-scoring fashion for an All-Star game, the first period featured seven total goals scored, all from different players. Lemon had a hand in the first goal for the North team. He picked up an assist from a goal scored by Nick Fornelius to give the North team an early lead.

Tanner, Nick O’Cain and Sam Taylor also added goals in the first period, and North took the first period lead at 4-3.

The North team continued to score in the second period by netting six goals, and the defense picked up its game by allowing only two goals in the period.

O’Cain, already with one goal, finished his hat trick that night by scoring his second and third goals in the period. His second goal, the North’s fifth in the game, was scored with 13:35 remaining in the period to give the North a 5-3 lead.

O’Cain’s third and final goal of the night came at the 9:11 mark. North All-Stars were up 9-4.

Tanner also scored in the second period, his final goal of the night. The assist came off the stick of Wylie Burnett, and the North team ended the second period with a 10-5 lead.

Northridge’s Troy Quarnberg was the first to score for the North team in the third period, knocking in his only goal with 11:21 remaining. Sam Littleton picked up an assist, his only one of the team, and the North was up 11-5.

Both teams alternated goals in the final minute to complete the scoring.

Lemon, who picked up a pair of assists, got the first assist on the first goal of the game by Fornelius. His second assist was credited on O’Cain’s first goal of the game.

Other local participants in the game were Northridge’s Daniel McPhee, Viewmont’s Jeremy Wiser, Davis’ Jerry Mayne and Andrew Whitney, and DCI’s Mitch Smith.

Whitney and Smith were listed as honorable mentions.

New to this year’s All-Star event was the Utah High School Hockey girls’ All-Star game, which pitted the girls’ “select” team against the “Lady Grizzlies.”

DCI’s Giovanna Shannon, Sarah Zvonkovic and Sami Zvonkovic and Northridge’s Kyra Dellerman made the list for the Lady Grizzlies’ team.
