BOUNTIFUL — Beautiful trees and small, cuddly animals bring pleasure to almost everyone.

Bountiful’s Lamplight Gallery celebrates this with its new “My Favorite Things” exhibit, running now through the end of the month. The show was created when several Lamplight artists were asked to choose their favorite pieces for display. The results offer a cheerful look at the simple pleasures we all experience.

Nature is a common theme among the pieces. M. Charlene Hill and Stan Elmer have painted cozy little corners of nature, the kind of places we would all love to take walks in if we lived in the country. Even the sunlight shining through each feels just warm enough to be welcoming.

Louise Shaw, who is also a reporter at the Clipper, capured crashing waves meant to take gallery visitors back to their own ocean experiences. Even Durrant’s “Landscape Re-invented” has obvious sloping hills.

Other works focus on smaller delights, whether it’s Barbara Gustaveson’s rainbow-bright collection of flowers or Barbara Dowdle’s soft-looking rabbit. In Alicia Jensen’s “Leaf it to Nature,” the artist marvels over the transformative process undergone by a single leaf.

The most touching painting, however, is far less universal. Artist Alicia Jensen has only limited mobility and use of her hands, but she’s still painted a vivid sea of golden sunflowers.

In front of them, she’s painted herself, standing tall despite her braces. There’s a huge smile on her face, reflecting the joy of the art she’s made. This pleasure is hers alone, and it’s beautiful.
