WOODS CROSS — A man walked away with minor cuts and scratches after a his plane crashed at Skypark Airport on Monday afternoon.
Andre Kostrzewa, 63, of Salt Lake City, was in the process of landing his single-engine, single-seat plane shortly after 1 p.m. Monday afternoon when it flipped and crashed, according to South Davis Metro Fire Agency Deputy Chief Jeff Bassett.
“He was very lucky,” Basset said.
The impact was hard enough it displaced the engine, Bassett said. The crash also resulted in a small fire in the cockpit that bystanders put out.
Kostrzewa refused medical treatment on the scene, Bassett said. He stayed there as investigators arrived to determine the cause.
The plane was built by Kostrzewa, who kept it in a hangar at the airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an investigation into the crash.
