BOUNTIFUL — Six local boys’ basketball players were listed on the 4A and 5A All-State basketball team after the 2012-2013 season ended.
Among the six chosen, only Bountiful’s Sam Merrill was voted onto the first team in 4A of all the coaches’ votes. Teammate Zach Seljaas made the second team in 4A, and Davis’ Abel Porter made the second team in 5A.
Others making the list were Viewmont’s Jarom Tye (5A third team), and Davis’ Jesse Wade (5A third team) and Braden Koelliker (5A honorable mention).
Merrill and Seljaas, who helped the Braves earn a semi-final bid in the 4A tournament, had stellar seasons for Bountiful as underclassmen. Merrill, a junior, averaged 18.3 points, six rebounds and five assists per game, and Seljaas averaged 15.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Porter averaged 13.7 points per game for the Darts, which reached the quarterfinals of the 5A tournament this season. Wade averaged 14.8 points and Koelliker led the team in total rebounds for the Darts this season.
Jarom Tye, the lone representative from Viewmont, averaged 13.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for the Vikings in his senior season.
Players were chosen on the All-State teams based on coaches’ votes. All 24 coaches in 5A voted, and 24 of 26 4A coaches voted for the All-State team in that classification.
