RIVERTON — The Viewmont Vikings baseball team opened its home season with a double-header against the number two-ranked Riverton Silverwolves last Saturday.
Riverton 3 Viewmont 2
In the first game, Viewmont centerfielder Mitch Dalley led off the game with a single against Riverton pitcher Jared White, but White would settle in and get the next twelve Viking batters in a row.
Viewmont starter Brendan Jensen kept the game close allowing only a single run in three innings of work.
In the bottom of the fifth, Viewmont rallied to tie the game when Parker Taggart singled and White hit rightfielder Justin Boucher with a pitch.
Later in the inning, a delayed steal by Will Andres resulted in a run down that allowed Taggart to score and tie the game. The tie was short-lived С Riverton’s White led off the sixth with a long home run to left.
The Silverwolves would add to their lead in the seventh, but Viewmont rallied in the bottom of the inning on a Taggart double and Boucher single.
A double play ended the game and left the Vikings one run short.
Riverton 5, Viewmont 1
In game two, the Silverwolves scored one run in the second, two in the third and another in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Viewmont got on the board when Parker Taggart doubled and Viewmont second baseman Travis Henderson singled.
A laser double to the left field fence by first baseman Isaac Evans to open the bottom of the seventh gave Viewmont a glimmer of hope, but the Vikings couldn’t rally.
The win raised Riverton’s record to 3-0 and dropped Viewmont to 0-3.
