Sixty years ago on April 3, 1953, Dave and Gloria Lord were married in the Salt Lake Temple. Ten days later he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He was sent to Camp San Luis Obispo, California for basic training and Signal School. She joined him there and they spent five months together. The Korean War ended just before Dave finished Signal School and upon graduating as the honor graduate of his class, he was sent to Germany. Gloria joined him and they spent the last year of his service there in Bavaria. They had a one-room cold-water flat over a hardware store. They were able to travel through much of Europe and Scandinavia on leaves during that year.

In March of 1955, they traveled home on a troop ship to New York City. He was discharged there and they bought a new car and drove home to Salt Lake City.

They moved to Davis County in June of 1962 and have lived here ever since. They have five children, Greg and Jan Lord, Ken and Kim Lord, Carrie and Scott Isakson, Rick and Michelle Lord and Mitch and Pam Lord, 19 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren with four more on the way (including twin boys).
