KAYSVILLE — A man was flown by medical helicopter to Ogden Regional Medical Center Wednesday night in “extremely critical condition” after his pickup slammed into the back of a semi-truck at a high rate of speed.
The accident happened just after 9 p.m. on I-15 just north of Kaysville, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
Traffic was backed up due to a previous accident when a  semi, traveling in the far right lane at about 40 mph was hit by the pickup, according to a press release from the Utah Highway Patrol. The pickup was driven by a single male driver who troopers say was traveling above the posted speed limit.
The impact  crushed the driver’s side of the pickup,  pinning the driver inside. Firefighters had to extricate him from the truck, before he was taken to the hospital.
The driver of the semi was uninjured.
The names of those involved were not released. Both accidents are still being investigated and no charges have been filed.
Cleanup from the two accidents stalled traffic for about three hours.
