CLINTON — A man was taken into custody and hospitalized for observation after he took off his clothes and threatened suicide in front of the Clinton Walmart late Saturday night.
The man, whose identity was not released, was an employee of the store, 1632 N. 2000 West, according to Clinton Police Lt. Dave Valentine.
The incident began at about 10:30 p.m.
Store employees called police on the man who removed his clothing outside the store. An off-duty Layton Police detective who was shopping at the store also called in, Valentine said.
The man approached some shoppers getting into their cars and tried to speak with them, Valentine said.
When approached by the Layton officer, he “took off running,” Valentine said. The officer subdued the man in front of the Golden West Credit Union, 1594 N. 2000 West. Clinton officers covered the man with a blanket and took him into custody.
When officers tried to interview the man, he would only respond with Biblical verses,” Valentine said.
He is suspected of being on drugs, the lieutenant said.
The naked man was taken to Davis Hospital and Medical Center and cited for lewdness and disorderly conduct.
