Melba Thompson Wassom passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Emmett, Idaho on Sunday, April 21, 2013. She was born in Garland, Utah to James Joseph and Lucetta Shumway Thompson on November 8, 1920.
She attended school in Garland and married Howard Merrill Wassom in the Logan Temple on August 8, 1941. They later settled in Bountiful where they raised their family.
Melba was loved by all who knew her. She had a quick wit, great sense of humor, and was an avid sports fan. She never said a negative thing about anyone and was always willing to help anyone who was in need. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Melba was preceded in death by her husband, H. Merrill Wassom; parents; three older brothers, Delos, Odell and Blaine Thomspon; three older sisters, Agnes Bishop, Blanch Hansen and Beth Boss and a great grandson, Brannan Jade Olsen. She is survived by two sisters, Laura Kunz and Lola Ruth Anderson; sons, Les (Peggy) and Don (Diane); daughter, Barbara Olsen (Hank); nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday April 25, at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful 26th Ward chapel at 200 N. 200 West, Bountiful. A viewing will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment at Lakeview Memorial Park. Condolences may be sent to www.memorialutah.com.
