Bikes Belong head to deliver keynote

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Bike Summit is returning to Salt Lake City this year, gathering cyclists on Friday, April 26 at the University of Utah Guesthouse for the Fifth Annual “Keep Utah Rolling” event.

“Year over year, Utah’s cycling community at large continues to make monumental progress as we work towards bike-friendly trails, roads, legislation and businesses,” said Brad Woods, president of Bike Utah, in a statement sent to the Clipper. “The Bike Summit is perfect opportunity to ‘circle the wagons’ on what has been most effective and what more we can do in 2013 to Keep Utah Rolling.”

The day-long summit features speakers from leading cycling companies, advocacy organizations and other local groups expected to be in attendance. There will also be updates on the state of cycling from communities around Utah.

Kevin Blumenthal, president of Bikes Belong, will give the keynote address. His national organization’s primary goal is to get more people on bikes more often.

“Bicycling in Utah faces a dizzying list of opportunities and challenges related to safety, health, tourism, transportation, business and the simple goal of making bicycling safer and more appealing for all who want to ride,” said Blumenthal in the press release. “This summit will prioritize the projects and strategies to make Utah bicycling better, helping not only bike riders but the state as a whole.”

A roundtable discussion will feature leaders from the Utah Department of Transportation, the Utah Transit Authority and others.

Register for the event online at The cost varies from $15-$40 and all registration types will include a lunch. Registrations will be accepted up until the day of the event.
