WOODS CROSS — Tuesday was filled with Region 6 wins for local teams.

Woods Cross and Bountiful played against East and Cyprus, respectively. South Davis athletes emerged victorious.

That allowed the Wildcats to maintain their Region 6 lead with roughly six games remaining in the regular season.

Woods Cross scores early to pick up win over East

The Woods Cross Wildcats had to find a way to bounce back from a tough 10-3 loss Friday at the hands of Cyprus.

The Wildcats shook off their first loss in Region 6 play by scoring three early runs against East on Tuesday en route to a 6-2 win.

The win improved the Wildcats’ region record to 8-1, putting them three games ahead of East in the standings.

Pitching was a stronghold for the Wildcats during the win. Quentin Foutz and Josh Cowley allowed just one hit and two runs. One run was unearned and was the team’s only error in the game.

The Wildcats’ three-run first inning lead almost disappeared when East closed the gap to 4-2 during the fourth inning; however, the Wildcats added runs in the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings, scattering nine hits overall.

Foutz got the win for the Wildcats, and Zach Valles took the loss.

Braves come back from early deficit to down Pirates

Down 1-0 after three innings, Bountiful scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead for good as the Braves downed the Pirates 4-2 Tuesday afternoon.

After scoring a pair of runs in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead, Ricky Medrano hit a two-RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to help Bountiful take a 4-1 lead.

The Pirate’s only other run came in the top of the seventh, but its rally fell short.

Tanner Redding and Ben Fowers pitched in the Braves’ victory. Redding picked up the win. Mason Jones and Ricky Medrano hit doubles in the win.

Upcoming games

After dropping two of three from Taylorsville last week, Viewmont started a three-game set against West on Wednesday afternoon. That series continues Thursday at Viewmont High School.

Davis returns to action on Thursday as the Darts take on Fremont at home. Woods Cross and Bountiful are on the road. The Wildcats take on East and the Braves face the Pirates.

First pitch for Viewmont, Woods Cross and Bountiful is at 3:30 p.m. and the Davis game will be at 4 p.m.

Scores and statistics were reported by the respective teams.
