BOUNTIFUL Viewmont Vikings and the Bountiful Braves picked up important region victories on Tuesday afternoon.

However, the same could not be said for Davis and Woods Cross, which lost Tuesday and slipped in region standings.

Braves beat Highland to stay in first place

Playing away from the comforts of home, the Bountiful Braves had fans on the edge of their seats after regulation time ended with a 1-1 tie against Highland.

But an early goal scored in overtime helped the Braves pick up a 2-1 victory, and in the process helped them maintain a perfect 6-0 record in Region 6.

Cesar Duenas and David Higginson scored the Braves’ goals in the game. Since dropping two straight to close non-region play, the Braves have won six straight and are 8-2 overall.

Vikings stay in second place with win over Granger

After falling to Hunter Friday 2-0, the Vikings boys’ soccer team rebounded Tuesday by beating the Granger Lancers 2-0 on Tuesday thanks to goals by Mike Johnson and Dennis Vivar-Diaz.

Both of Viewmont’s goals came in the second half. The win helped the Vikings stay in second place by one point over Taylorsville. The team is five points behind region-leading Hunter, and four games remain in the regular season.

Darts fall to Weber in double-overtime

The Davis Darts could have made a dent into the Region 1 lead had they picked up a win over Weber on Tuesday afternoon.

However, a double-overtime golden goal by Weber’s Colby Huerta helped the Warriors beat the 5A fifth-ranked Darts on Tuesday.

The Dart’s only goal came from Braden Johnson, his first of the season. The loss puts Davis in the No. 4 spot in Region 1, but the team is tied with Layton at nine points each.

Wildcats fall to Cyprus 3-1, slip into fifth place

Ethan Cope scored a second-half goal for the Wildcats, but it wasn’t nearly enough to overtake Cyprus Tuesday afternoon. The Wildcats fell 3-1 to lose their third straight match.

The loss puts Woods Cross in fifth place in Region 6. The team claimed only a single win over Clearfield in region play.

Upcoming games

Davis will continue Region 1 play on Thursday when it hosts Fremont at 3:30 p.m. Viewmont, Bountiful and Woods Cross will each host their opponents on Friday as they face Taylorsville, Cyprus and East, respectively.

Scores and statistics were reported by the respective teams.
