FARMINGTON — A three-day trial has been set for a Layton woman charged with child abuse.

Sandra Flores, 24, of Layton, will stand trial Oct. 2-4 in 2nd District Court. Jury selection is scheduled for Sept. 26.

Flores was arrested in July 2011. She posted bail and was released.

Flores is charged with one count of second-degree felony child abuse after she took a 3-year-old to the emergency room at Davis Hospital and Medical Center on July 5, 2011, according to Layton Police.

She told police the child had fallen off the toilet and hit her head.

At the time, Flores was living in an apartment with the girl’s mother and cared for the child while the woman was at work. In turn, the woman would watch Flores’ child when Flores worked.

At a preliminary hearing on Jan. 20, 2012, a University of Utah Medical Center physician testified the girl’s injuries were not consistent with falling off the toilet.

Flores was last in court in March of 2012. Hearings have been set three times since, but have been cancelled.
