SALT LAKE CITY — Five individuals from several counties associated with real estate have been charged with fraud in 3rd District Court, including an escrow officer from Kaysville.
Robin L. Moran, 29, the Kaysville escrow officer, was charged with multiple counts of second-and third-degree felony communications fraud and engaging in a pattern of unlawful activity. The charges come in relation to allegations that group members adding bogus fees to transactions involving 13 homes between 2007 and 2010.
The charges were filed by the Utah Attorney General’s Office because the homes were in several counties, according to charging documents.
Fees charged were usually in the range of several thousand dollars, and were allegedly for services that were never provided.
The final sales figure may have been inflated by as much as $20,000 in at least one transaction, the documents allege.
Others involved include real estate agents Karl Robert Hartley, 45, of Ogden; Sonia Zisumbo, 41, of Roy; Marilyn Ivory Lira, 28, of Ogden; and another escrow officer, Melissa Jean Thurgood, 35 of Farr West.
Moran is scheduled for a status hearing before 3rd District Judge James Blanch.
