BOUNTIFUL— Sometimes, smaller is better.

Local musician Mike Murphy’s annual “Multiple Sclerosis Unplugged” concert is back for its 13th year, but it’s not going to look quite the same. The event, which is set for May 10 at 7 p.m., is moving to the building’s smaller Vienna Room upstairs.

“It’s a little more intimate,” said Murphy, who decided the upstairs room was a better fit for the concert. “The downstairs room (at the Wight House) has a rail across the front of the stage. We didn’t like that.”

The concert, which will also feature Jake White and Kathryn Tingey, raises money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Bike MS.

The three performers, all of whom are singer/songwriters, perform a mix of their own music and their favorite covers.

“I’ll do John Denver, because he’s one of my favorite artists,” said Murphy. Kat likes Sara Bareilles, and Jake does a lot of interesting things with alternative tuning.”

The concert was held for several years at Viewmont High. When Murphy retired, he could no longer afford the fees the school charged. He considered cancelling the event until the people who run the Wight House decided to help. The concert made its debut in the main room of the building last year.

“They stepped up to let us use the building for nothing,” said Murphy. “They even had an opportunity to rent the building out for a wedding that night, but they turned it down.”

Tickets are available at Murphy’s Guitars, located at 133 N. Main Street in Bountiful, or at the door the night of the show. Space is limited.
